How to Make a Statement with Large Format Wall Art

Large wall art can instantly give a room a sense of direction. When a piece is deliberately used as a focal point, it creates both tranquility and character. This blog post explains how to use large-scale art in a balanced way, without it becoming too dominant.

1. One work as a focus point
Instead of several small pieces, one large artwork provides a sense of order. It prevents visual clutter and makes the space feel more powerful.

2. Size as part of the composition
A work can be noticeably large. As a guideline, it should cover approximately two-thirds of the width of the sofa, table, or cabinet above which it hangs. In open spaces, even more space can be utilized.

3. Rest in style and color
With large formats, a calm composition often has a greater impact than a very busy design. Earth tones, organic shapes, or minimalist textures work well.

4. The correct position on the wall
Hang the artwork slightly lower than you would with smaller pieces. If the center is around 140–145 cm from the floor, it will align better with the furniture below.

5. Choice of materials for larger dimensions

  • Canvas : matte appearance, soothing

  • Dibond : sturdy and sleek – suitable for modern spaces

  • Plexiglas : for extra depth, especially with expressive designs

6. Light and space around the work
Keep the artwork well-spaced and away from surrounding elements. Art looks better when the surroundings remain calm. Indirect light enhances this effect.

7. When large format works well
• Above the sofa or dining table
• On a long wall with little interruption
• In a room with plenty of natural light
• As part of a minimalist interior

A size-conscious choice gives direction to the space. When size, position, and tranquility converge in the design, a powerful statement emerges that enhances the interior without dominating the atmosphere.
