The power of one statement piece: why less is sometimes more

Wall art is used in many interiors to create ambiance, but the impact is often greater when you choose a single, striking piece of art instead of several smaller images. A well-chosen statement piece can bring balance to a room, give it direction, and immediately draw the eye.

At WallArtistic, we find that a single large artwork can sometimes have a greater impact than a full gallery wall. It creates a sense of calm, focus, and a clear style.

1. What is a statement piece?
A statement piece is a work of art that deliberately draws attention. It stands out through its size, use of color, or composition and forms the visual focal point of a room. It doesn't have to be bright or busy—simplicity can be powerful when chosen well.

2. Why does one large project sometimes work better than several small ones?
• It creates tranquility instead of visual busyness
• The space feels larger and more organized
• The eye is directed to one focus point
• A strong design looks better in large format

3. Where do you place a statement piece?
Common positions include:
• Above the sofa in the living room
• Behind the headboard of the bed
• In the hall or entrance as an entrance accent
• Above a sideboard or dining table
Choose a central position and leave space around the work so it doesn't feel 'cramped'.

4. Size advice
The artwork can be large. As a guideline:
• 60–90 cm wide for average walls
• 100 cm or larger for spacious walls
The work should take up approximately two-thirds of the width of the piece of furniture above which it hangs.

5. Color and style
A statement piece doesn't have to shout to be seen. A subtle design can be just as impressive if it complements the color, light, and materials in the space. It's important that the piece complements the rest of the interior without fading into the background.

6. Less is sometimes more
By consciously choosing one large piece, you prevent the wall from becoming cluttered. It adds clarity to the space and establishes a clear style direction. This can have a particularly powerful effect in minimalist or modern interiors.

A well-chosen statement piece brings both tranquility and character to a room. It enhances the décor without competing with other elements, making the interior stand out.
